EAST PITTSBURGH, Pa. - People who live in East Pittsburgh say they’re concerned over the number of sex offenders in the community.
According to East Pittsburgh police, there are 48 sex offenders in the community of less than 1,800 homes. That means one in every 37 residents is a sex offender.

"People don’t want you around. They think because you’re labeled that you’re scum of the earth,” said Tony, a registered sex offender who lives in East Pittsburgh.
East Pittsburgh police said they’re unsure why so many registered sex offenders live in their community, but they know that ensuring the offenders are all in compliance with Megan’s Law puts a strain on their department.
Now, there’s uncertainty surrounding the sex offender registry.
That’s causing even more concern for parents, including Kashmir Jackson, who reminds his children regularly to know their surroundings.
"You're not sure how safe your kid is when they're walking, and knowing there are sex offenders right down the street makes you feel cautious," Jackson said.
