RANKIN, Pa. - An attempted traffic stop in McKeesport early Wednesday morning ended with a man hanging from the railing of the Rankin Bridge.
McKeesport police say an officer attempted to stop Jerron Ervin Thomas, 24, of Pittsburgh around 2:30 a.m. for making an illegal turn onto East Fifth Avenue. Thomas, driving a blue Chevrolet Malibu did not pull over and instead fled across the Duquesne-McKeesport Bridge to Route 837.
Thomas’ car allegedly struck a utility pole at the intersection of Route 837 and Mifflin Street in Whitaker and he fled on foot into a wooded area, police said.

Police say a stolen handgun was found in Thomas’ car.
